"Walk In Balance" was inspired by something profound that was said by Iroquois Nation cultural leader Jack Preston. He was one of the founding members of The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers, the oldest, resident Native American dance company in New York.
While teaching a course at a university in New York on the culture and traditions of the Native Americans which was attended by Andy Wasserman in 1972, Mr. Preston communicated the vision and wisdom of the First Peoples in 3 simple words: "Walk In Balance."
He also reiterated that the only way for a person to begin that walk in sincerity and authenticity was to ask oneself this question: "Do I find myself believable?:
Hearing those words changed Wasserman's life from that day onward.
The tracks on this album reflect the qualities that are cultivated by walking the Good Road in balance. They resonate with the feelings expressed by living in constancy, radiating presence, holding fast to the centerpoint, establishing equilibrium, having composure, moderation and stillness within.
Andy Wasserman's intention is to share the balance within the balance, the music within the music and the sound within the sound through these recordings.
Performed live on a 1924 Steinway Model "M" Classic Grand, this collection of newly recorded original solo piano compositions, arrangements and improvisations showcase Andy Wasserman's signature sound, combining an expressive piano touch with an impressive technique.
These original compositions, arrangements and unique interpretations his own, unique piano style merges rhythmic invention and elegant harmonies, standing as a living tribute to the tradition of virtuoso elegance, past and present.
